What Do You Know About The Grand Fatih Mosque In Ortahisar Trabzon?
Hotel Booking
Grand Fatih Mosque, formerly Panagia Hrisokefalos (Greek: Παναγία Χρυσοκέφαλος "The Virgin Mary with the Golden Head"), is a mosque and former monastery church in Ortahisar district of Trabzon. Another name for Fatih mosque is Ortahisar Mosque. Before the conquest of Trabzon by Mehmet the Conqueror in 1461, it served as both a monastery and a church during the Trabzon Empire. The enthronement ceremonies of the Trabzon Emperors were held here, and some of the deceased rulers were buried in the church or in its garden. After conquering Trabzon, Fatih Sultan Mehmet converted the church into a mosque and then performed the first Friday prayer here.
