Remains of ancient castle searched undersea

Hotel Booking

In a system where the Silk Road continues from Trabzon to the west by sea over the port, Akçakale is the most important military base on the seaside where the control and security of maritime trade is ensured. At the same time, the castle, which played an active role in the defense of the city of Trabzon, is dated to the medieval period and was actively used in the Trabzon Empire and Ottoman periods. The work, which is in a very good condition, has been found in archaeological excavations in recent years, with a monastery and tomb structures belonging to St. Phokas, as well as many small finds such as cannons, cannonballs and coins. Another feature that makes the structure interesting is the wrecks and cannon remains found on the seabed right in front of it.
