Among all the places that can be visited in the Danube Delta, Mila 23 is a truly special one, being nicknamed the "Venice" of Romania because it reveals to tourist, what it is like to live completely surrounded by water, canals, lakes and large expanses of reeds. The village of Mila 23 is considered the central point of the triangle formed by the three arms of the Danube (Chilia, Sulina and Sf. Gheorghe) and one of the most important starting points in the tourist routes that cross one of the most picturesque areas of the Danube Delta. The current name of the village comes from the nautical mark of Mile 23, which represents the distance from Sulina(Mile 0). Access to the village of Mila23 is only by water. The village community is limited to about 450 inhabitants and is mostly made up of fishermen.
