What Is This Georgian Wedding?

Hotel Booking

For Georgians, music and polyphonic songs were an inseparable companion of life in pleasure, in plague, in labour, in struggle. The real story of "Telavian Wedding" is connected with the punishment of people for performing Georgian polyphonic songs. Every corner and city of Georgia had its own wedding traditions.

Оn August 28, 1924 people singing Georgian polyphonic songs loudly were arrested by the Soviet army. In honour of their memory, polyphonic songs, the singing of which was not allowed to the participants of this "Telavian wedding" were always performed at weddings in the following years in Telavi.
